Stamp: Amy was redesigned too by Jammerlee Stamp: Amy was redesigned too by Jammerlee
Inspired by a comment I saw recently that REALLY made me go... ehhh. Someone complained that Sonic has hardly changed in over 20 years, so why should Sally. My mind IMMEDIATELY went to Amy Rose. I was a member of the online Sonic community waaaaay back before SA1 was released, and back then I was a HELL of a lot more active in the fandom than I am now. I NEVER heard anyone bitch about Amy. I'm sure people who weren't cozy with the redesign existed, but the closest I'd ever heard to people bitch was someone commented how Amy looked more like an echidna than a hedgehog. That's it.

And guess what? She's still Amy, no matter her wardrobe. The same will be true for Sally. Chill out.

Edit/ I'm AWARE people who bitch exist. I haven't seen them because they're few and far between. The point is folks are blowing this Sally redesign WAY WAY WAAAAAY out of proportion. POINTING OUT THAT YOU HAVE SEEN THEM MEANS THAT YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT /Edit

Edit 2/ Larger text on the previous edit because apparently people don't read. /Edit

I like Amy's new design better than her old one, no offense. I do love the classic Sonic though.

Those who complained heavily about Amy's redesign were more then ten years ago, so yeah...you wouldn't see many anymore.  Most of the core bulk of the fans now never even knew Amy in her original configuration.  But there was quite a bit of complaint when her new design was first revealed in the games after she had been gone for some time.  I had friends who complained about it, who had actually played Sonic CD.
I liked her new design. I think it was good, because the rest of the cast had aged some for the newer series, why not Amy too?

I don't have anything against Sally's new design, it is rather sleek, I'm more sad that she seems to have lost some of her original look of maturity and grace for a more childish look.  It's not so much the outfit, as the base redesign for the character.  But then again.....I wasn't completely sure about how fully they had to re-sega everything in general so.....still have mixed feelings about that. It seems like the room for creativity has been really reduced, and now all of the character are again suffering from having about 1 of 3 body types.

You don't see as many these days for that reason, yeah. You see more people complaining ZOMG GREEN EYES than Amy's new outfit. Although I was there when SA1 was first released and saw first hand the impact it had on the online fandom during the time and how dramatically it changed pretty much overnight @_@

XD Yeah.  Oh yeah, I remember them changing Sonic's eyes was a big deal to...  Though....thanks to reading the Archie comic series, I actually had a heads up in that regard by about several months.  They kept doing a teaser thing showing just Sonic's eyes with green, and a big grin. Then, about a month before game release, they had a story that covered the comic's version of how he got his eye color change. I rather liked the green eyes. I think some of doing that might have also been because of the new graphics power they had.  Many early Nintendo game characters didn't express eye color beyond black because of pixel size restrictions. The comics would occasionally do closer views and suggest that Sonic's eyes were brown, but the comics and cartoons both gave Sonic and Tails pretty much black beads for eyes till later.....when Sonic got clearly green eyes, and Tails got blue eyes, and Knuckles was revealed to have a sort of violet hue.

But, Ames babe, it's because your old design was painful to look at and colorblind-ish, while Sally wasn't anymore the fanboys' furry fanservicing ! Wink and Dimples

Not complaining at all, just stating facts. Sally's redesign is aduuurable ! :meow:

That's because
1. It was the 90s, nobody cared!
2. When Amy was redesigned, she wasn't giving into thousands of fanbrats who bashed her for her design.

NOBODY complained about Amy and bashed her (because of her fangirly obsessions with sonic )in the way Sally got bashed because she just walk without clothes (her new design is with clothes but they still bash her claiming that they are copying Amy and putting into Sally) and they bash her more that she's sonic's girl instead of Amy

Let me put it this way:

Sally was one of the few pantless females in the STH franchise.  Now Sally has left that behind. It's like giving up a belief (in which females shouldn't have to be forced to wear pants). I know she's not going to change,  but in a very small way,  she has.

Among that, it's her de-roboticized Mecha Sally armor. So, why would you wanna go around wearing that?

Sally is stronger than that, and we know it.

If I may offer an alternate perspective - perhaps she wears that "armor" as a trophy. Think about it. Eggman, for a brief period, was in full control of her. Now she's the one who's back in control, and that outfit will forever remind Eggman of what he had - and what he almost accomplished - but ultimately fell short of obtaining. It's an ever present insult every single time she confronts him, every time he glimpses her in the security footage, every time she so much as enters his mind. That's not weakness, that's empowerment.

As for the double standard, that I can agree on. I'm not fond of it myself. But then again, is it really a double standards? Because it's not just her. Antoine lost his vest for what I imagine to be similar reasons, so in the end I feel it kind of evens out.

She almost turned her friends into ground meat. Ya really wanna keep something that reminds you of doing that. Plus, I don't ENTIRELY hate the outfit. (The bracelets are so friggen awesome I swear...) :happybounce: So, if they redesigned her again, but without the pants and shirt, with the bracelets and gloves, and replace the vest with the denim vest given to her by her old teacher, we've got a kickin' redesign.Sunglasses are good

*shrug* It's a matter of personal perspective I suppose. The way I personally feel is that you can either choose to dwell on something negative and allow it to chain you down, or you can grow from the experience and find a way to make you stronger. Why else would Sally be wearing it, if not to empower herself? I certainly doubt it's due to stockholm syndrome, otherwise you're right in that it wouldn't make sense in her wearing it. Yeah, it could be used as a reminder of the terrible things she'd done, but imagine how all the more satisfying that would make getting under Eggman's skin by throwing it back at him? And imagine just how angry Eggman must feel every single time Sally cuts down one of his robots with those energy blades, knowing that HE was directly responsible for giving her those weapons in the first place.

I'm not saying how you feel is wrong or anything. I'm just saying there's another way to look at it. You are right in that Sally is a strong character, and that would be an excellent way to portray her strength, making it a positive instead of a negative. As for the design itself, elements of it were weird to me at first, but I've really grown to love it *lol* Personal taste though. I've seen some pretty cool alternate interpretations that other artists have done as well.

Plus, it's worth noting that those clothes, in all technicality, have nothing to DO with Eggman. History was re-written. In this new world Sally has likely ALWAYS worn those clothes, so there wouldn't have BEEN any connection to Eggman had her memories of a completely separate life unrelated to the one she has now not been restored. The outfit is only an echo, and I don't see her suddenly throwing off her clothes because of it, assuming she even makes that connection

Aye, she was reminded that she had been roboticized in her "other" life. But it's prolli very unlikely she would connect her roboticization and weaponization with her clothing, especially as her current life's memories would be of her always having worn them. It's possible she might notice a similarity between her energy blades and the blades Mecha Sally had been given, but the outfit is different enough from Mecha Sally's paint that I don't think it would immediately twig, if ever. We only know where the outfit came from because we're the audience and we have knowledge the characters do not.

I don't understand how that's related? We're talking about willingly using an outfit and weapons in both physical and psychological warfare, vs a paint job that likely wasn't even Shard's choice and would have absolutely NO significant meaning to Eggman if he were to see it. I would liken it more to Bunnie becoming an FF and using her mechanical enhancements, willingly, to fight Robotnik/Eggman after she was partially robotized by him. And honestly, in Sally's case I would think the weapons would be more cause for problem than the pants. The pants were just part of a paint job, it was those weapons that she used to attempt to harm her friends with, so I would see far more potential for psychological issues with those than the outfit. And you've already voiced support for those weapons during this conversation.

Pretty much. I didn't even know who Amy was till Adventure came out, and honestly, it's actually better, but even then, I don't care much for her either. The problem I see with the author, and many people who defend Sonic boom, is that they they roll us all up in complain for the general point of the change, instead of the actual reasons as to why. With Sonic Boom, the main complaint with a lot of people is Knuckles new design, basically because they made h him huge compared to the main cast, not to mention he fits with the "big buff idiot" trope we see a lot these days, but many people don't care to understand that and foolishly lump the complaint with people who bithced about Green eyes, when anyone who actually pays attention knows Sonic has had them for over a decade before anyone said anything about it, and that was all over the model issue with Sonic 4.

Eh fair enough with the cheek fluffs. I think she looks fine without them personally *lol* As far as the eyes I doubt that's a permanent feature. I saw a Spaz rendition of her on an upcoming cover and they looked more like her normal eyes, so I think it just depends on the artist. And it does appear Sally has a top under her vest though =) A black one with a white collar
